silence
/Do not make your voice heard.
You have nothing to say.
The world doesn't want to hear it.
Keep your mouth shut.
Keep your emotions shut.
Shut yourself up.
Before someone else does.
That way you won't lose to them.
You'll just lose.
Do not make your voice heard.
You have nothing to say.
The world doesn't want to hear it.
Keep your mouth shut.
Keep your emotions shut.
Shut yourself up.
Before someone else does.
That way you won't lose to them.
You'll just lose.
What a vain thought
To think I'd be in anyone's story
When you take my scent
And claim it as yours
Like I gave it to you
But it was always mine
And mine alone
Just like I stand
Here's to the phoenixes that rise from the ashes
Here's to the resurrection and reincarnation
Here's to scaling down and shaving off
Shedding a layer
Shedding skin
To our raw flesh
Bleeding and vulnerable
But necessary
I'm reaching
As far as I can, in any direction
Hoping to find something to hold on to
And if one dare to dream
A someone that reaches back
There are so few
That will fit in my embrace
That my face can hide in the empty space by their necks
Or their arm that reaches all around me
And pulls me in
Strong and safe
Where I for a moment don't have to worry
Except for about you
I'm searching for someone
to run away with
Who would be willing
to let go
Of everything but my hand
Who would be willing
to go with me
into the unknown
into the wilderness
And we will stand
Together
But on our own
Sometimes holding each other
Sometimes not
Someone
Who would be willing
to be small with me
and let me be big
Just like I am
Someone
Who would be willing
to be big with me
and let me be small
Just like I am
I've been told
I am impossible to love
But as I go through this world
The more I think
That you were just
Incapable
A tickle on my cheek
A touch, slowly running over my face
An echo
Of a feeling
How strange, the comfort
Of knowing ones tears
A cup of tea to warm my soul
As I feel myself drift away from it all
I cannot see a way of saving me
So I guess I'm lost, way out at sea
Come to me when you're broken
I cannot fix you
But I can help you find the missing pieces
And if there is one, that seems to be lost
You can take
A piece of me
Leap
Do not go quietly into the night
Scream, dance and fight
Do not go quietly into the night
It is yours
If you want it
When you want it
How you want it
Oh, how you want it
The darkness
Leap
It is yours
You don't have to know any bonds
Defy
Leap
Keep listening
There is a rhythm
It is yours
It will focus you
It doesn't speak your language
You don't speak its
It's a dance;
With waiving arms
And subtle smiles
A glance, caught across the room
A gentle squeeze of two fingers
A closing of an eye
A tremble
A voice of its own
Listen
Few things inspire me more than people who say fuck it to the system, refuse to stand in line, and wait for their turn. We have to create work and art for ourselves. Our voices are unique and important. And we can do it both for ourselves and for our fellow artists. The title of this post is a quote from Jay Duplass, where he shares his thoughts on how to keep making art even though no one is willing to invest in your vision, be it financially or emotionally. In these times, give of yourself with great generosity, but also protect yourself so that you also get something back. Be specific in your wishes. Say Yes, And to the roles, projects, auditions that come your way, if they tickle you and your artistic journey. Take the jobs that come your way, the commercial, the dayplayer, the one-liner, but create that lead role for yourself, or that poetry that is stuck inside your chest. Create. The world needs you.
